The world-famous video display of Back and Rosta Ltd. was inaugurated in mid-November in America's Latin Islamic community centre. The Magic Wall's interactive display serves as a digital museum for the educational purposes of the Houston community.
With an unprecedented civic effort, some $4 million in donations and unparalleled way, the new Islam in Spanish Cultural Center in Texas was completed and officially opened on 16 November. One of the Houston facility's main attractions was the debut of our interactive digital video display, the Magic Wall, which the organization's leaders described as "America's only four-meter-wide interactive digital museum.”
Jaime "Mujahid" Fletcher, the creator and director of the Islam in Spanish Institute, approached us at the end of this summer with an ambitious plan. He imagined their future digital museum with our innovative displays. From September onwards, an inspiringly intense professional co-creation began, lead by Dóra Szigeti, a senior manager at our Budapest office.
We have set an ambitious deadline for the implementation. It usually takes 4-8 weeks to complete a project. The international collaboration of curators, designers, graphic designers and programmers across different time zones is time-consuming in itself. But here we had a client with a particularly agile and determined vision. Jaime "Mujahid" Fletcher and I coordinated almost around the clock, which is why we managed to develop the entire concept in record time, in just 3-5 weeks - recalls Dóra Szigeti of the efficient cooperation.
"Andalusian roots with a Latino flavour" - that's how US newspapers described the members of the community, most of whom are Hispanic Americans from South America, after the opening in November. They are thus, in some way related to the Islamic ancestors who lived in the Spanish lands of Europe. The aim is to bring to the world the representatives of Islamic cultures, great thinkers and influential inventors from the regions of southern Spain, mainly Andalusia, where they mostly originate.
And for all this educational mission, they considered the Magic Wall's interactive video walls as a starting point. Set in the central location of their institute in Houston, with a tasteful aesthetic and oriental decor - the Alhambra building was the main inspiration - our six units of 55-inch displays were an instant hit among visitors since the first minute. The over four metres wide digital museum was established on time in the most attractive and playful, attention-grabbing style.
Due to the mission of the center, the main focus is on science, culture and Islamic religion, and of course we used the Magic Wall's rich feature set to include digital and innovative solutions such as stunning visuals, 3D graphics, video applications and playful quizzes!
In the recent weeks since its opening, the centre has been in continuous operation, with religious, spiritual, cultural and community programmes every day. All of this can be confirmed on the community pages of the Islam in Spanish Institute. The organisers are keen to make all visitors aware of the Magic Wall, which they see as the most important means of sharing with as many people as possible the inspiring and positive impact of Islam's rich heritage on our world today.
